Altavista Property – Golf on the Costa del Sol

February 23, 2012 in Altavista property, AltaVista Property Costa del Sol, AltaVista Property Marbella, Altavista Property Spain, altavistaproperty.com, Destination Spain, Marbella Info, Marbella Lifestyle, Michael Liggan, Property Marbella, Spain News, www.altavistaproperty.com by Michael Liggan

The Costa del Sol, A golfing Mecca

With Andalucía widely recognized as the ‘golfing capital of Europe’, what is it that attracts so many golfers to the Costa del Sol?

Altavista property – Costa del Sol News

Golf on the Coast has been popular since the late 1980’s. The extensive range of courses continue to attract countless golfers; from amateurs to professionals, residents and holiday makers. These days golf is a game anyone can enjoy, gone are the days when golf was an exclusive sport, restricted to the wealthy.

The British Golfing Experience

A typical golfing trip to the UK means that you head to your chosen course armed with protective clothing: jumper, jacket, a nice pair of thick socks. On arrival you discover that the course has been flooded, therefore it is not possible to play. You nurse your disappointment with a rather bland meal in the on-site restaurant, with superb views of rain and wet grass. Nevertheless, there’s always tomorrow.
Unfortunately this scenario continues for the following 3 days, leaving just 4 days of your trip remaining. You finally manage to get your feet on the fairways, hands on clubs, raring to go, but your fingers are frozen from the cold. After a fierce battle with the first couple of holes, the lack of sensation in your hands is making it increasingly difficult to carry on.
Finally you are defeated, cold and miserable, as you head to the nearest pub to commiserate.

Contrast this with the Costa del Sol, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a desirable destination. With an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, golfers rarely have to worry about a game being spoilt by the weather; a round can be arranged without aggravation, at short notice, and enjoyed to its full potential.

A Dream Location

In addition to the year round warm climate, the Costa del Sol also tempts golfers with a wide selection of irresistible courses. Each is set within a beautiful location, providing magnificent backdrops, be it mountain view or sea view.
Thanks to the ever increasing amount of Clubs, there are now greens and fairways almost everywhere you look; with around 30 courses to choose from and more to be built over the next ten years.

Improvements are continually being made with numerous Clubs undergoing total refurbishments. In many cases, a second or even third course has been added to the original facilities. La Cala Resort for example- known as Golf World- has a total of 3 courses and is the largest complex in Spain.

Championship Courses

Not only is Andalucía a golfers paradise, it also plays an important role in professional golf, hosting championships such as the PGA Seniors and the Volvo Masters.
One of the finest clubs on the coast has to be Valderrama, a
championship course with fairways described as the best in Europe.
Golf enthusiasts will be familiar with the prestige
associated to Valderrama, setting of the Ryder Cup- won by Europe in 1997.
Most Clubs on the coast operate a turn up and play system, however some courses have very strict rules such as La Zagaleta Golf Club, open only to residents and members. Many courses are designed for players of all levels: some are more taxing than others like Almenara Golf Club, one of the most challenging on the coast. However, the Costa del Sol caters for beginners through to professionals, so you can be sure to find somewhere to play a round!
Other famous courses located on the coast include; Las Brisas famed for its imaginative design, plus Aloha Golf, Rio Real and Los Naranjos. Another course worth noting is Alcaidesa, the only links course on the Coast is situated near the town of San Roque with great views of Gibraltar.
Many courses are built within residential tourist developments so have frontline golf apartments. A lot of people decide to invest in a holiday home, but there is no shortage of nearby apartments available to rent. A number of Courses have hotels attached, offering a fitting range of amenities and sport facilities on tap.

Discounted Green Fees

A large amount of companies specialise in golfing holidays, for example teetimesanywhere.com. Through online websites you can organize your trip and benefit from discounted green fees.

The average price of a game tends to be around €50, depending on the time of year, although more prominent courses, such as Valderrama, can cost up to €290. Prices adjust according to the season, so it’s best to check green fees and tee times with the golf course itself. Many clubs have their own website; check our Golf Directory for more information and contact details. LINK
When it comes to handicaps, all golf clubs in Spain will anticipate that you have a handicap certificate or letter of competency. You may be asked to show this at any time.

A Celebrity favourite

Many celebrities also enjoy a regular stopover for a spot of golf, particularly for charity events like the popular Bobby Davro Celebrity golf challenge. A fantastic event that takes place in June for the 6th year running, to raise money for the Rhys Daniels Trust. Celebrities and Sport’s World Celebrities battle it out on the fairways to acquire the Rhys & Charly Trophy.

Perfect your Swing?

If your golf isn’t quite up to scratch don’t be put off. Amidst the development of, and competition between courses, numerous Academy’s are being opened on the Costa del Sol; For example the recently opened Arcos Gardens Golf Academy directed by Ashley Northridge, a PGA class AA professional.
If a basic ‘Golf Aligment Aid’ doesn’t do the trick, there is an assortment of more high-tech equipment available at various courses. The TaylorMade Performance Lab at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in La Cala Resort is bound to help. Its remarkable fitting system measures the components and results of your swing, capturing, quantifying and animating your total body motions in 3D.

The perfect scenery and the vast amount that the Costa del Sol has to offer, keeps a regular stream of golfers from the UK and Ireland arriving throughout the year.

England plan European build-up in Marbella

December 21, 2011 in Altavista property, AltaVista Property Costa del Sol, AltaVista Property Marbella, Altavista Property Spain, altavistaproperty.com, Destination Spain, Marbella Info, Marbella Lifestyle, Michael Liggan, www.altavistaproperty.com by Michael Liggan

It was Fabio Capello’s lowest moment. In the immediate aftermath of the humiliating 4-1 defeat by Germany at the 2010 World Cup, as he surveyed the wreckage of his South African campaign, he said wistfully: ‘I remember Denmark in 1992, they came straight off the beach to win the European Championship.’

imageIn truth, it was an admission of failure. He had just watched England’s supposedly world-class players not just being out-passed and out-classed by a young Germany side in one match but staggering through the entire tournament in a zombie-like state, devoid of energy or enthusiasm.

Capello could not help but contrast it to the joy of other nations at World Cups and European Championships. The ultimate example were those victorious Danes in 1992, a team invited to participate only at the last moment after the expulsion of Yugoslavia and who had literally been summoned from the beaches to play.

If England will not go quite that far in the run-up to Euro 2012, Capello will still be trying something similar. Having concluded that the primary reason for English failures at major tournaments is lethargy, both mental and physical, Capello is searching for a psychological trip-switch to free the players from the straitjacket of fear and fatigue that inhibits them.

So boot camp is out for 2012; beach camp is the way forward. England are off to Marbella to prepare for Euro 2012. And while the training facilities will be first class, there will also be a distinctly more relaxed air surrounded by the playboy yachts, the palm trees and a sparkling sea under the Andalusian sun.

AltaVistaSpain-MarbellaUnfortunately for the England players, they probably won’t have time to have a look around at some of the Marbella property bargains which abound today. Marbella is the geographical, commercial and holiday heart of the Costa del Sol, and is where Altavista Property is based. Swish Puerto Banus, family-friendly Elviria and the “New Golden Mile” to Estepona expand the options for the buyer here; options that are now back on the cards for people who have considered buying elsewhere due to the price constraints of the past. With 100% mortgages and prices that have dropped 30-50%, our Marbella properties are exclusive to us, and are simply the best value we have right now – anywhere.

Michael Liggan of Altavista Property – Exclusive developments the very best we have to offer you?

December 19, 2011 in Altavista property, AltaVista Property Costa del Sol, AltaVista Property Marbella, Altavista Property Spain, altavistaproperty.com, Destination Spain, Marbella Info, Marbella Lifestyle, Michael Liggan, Property Marbella, Spain News, www.altavistaproperty.com by Michael Liggan

Altavista Property Spain – We know you’re looking for the best combination of price, value and finance. That’s why we seek out those rare exceptional developments, which we can negotiate the very best deals on and then offer exclusively.

Why are these Altavista Spain exclusives developments the very best we have to offer you?

  • Michael Liggan say’s – The prices are as low as you’re likely to find anywhere. We all know property prices have dropped on the Costa del Sol (25% on average). Our developments, though, are between 30 and 50% off. How? Because we negotiate bulk discounts, like any good business would. When we take on multiple properties exclusively, we make sure we can sell them for very low prices. Lower than other non-exclusive agents, and lower than the developer would sell for if approached directly
  • Altavista Property – They’re high quality properties. We only even consider taking on the very best, most desirable, key-ready, popular and well-located developments. To find such developments and ensure they “tick all the boxes” is a considerable undertaking as even in today’s market there aren’t many around
  • Altavista Property Spain – We’ve negotiated 100% finance terms on nearly all of them. Frankly, the banks have reluctantly agreed to these terms because they need our help. Many are already administering repossessed stock, and we offer them an efficient way of selling such properties. Likewise, they don’t want developments that they’ve financed getting into trouble, so they’re glad for our help here too. One of our conditions is 100% finance. Even in the occasional circumstances where this isn’t possible, we ensure the mortgages on offer are on the best possible terms or with the highest discounts on the sale price

Look out for “Altavista Spain exclusive” throughout our property listings for our very best deals. Remember these properties are limited as they’re hard to find and we never know when we can find more: Make haste while they’re there!

What Michael Liggan of Altavista property expects for the Marbella Property Market in 2012?

Property investments, in Marbella, Puerto Banus, Elivira, Estepona and the New Golden Mile

For the last ten years investing in property the world over has been seen as a safe bet with prices rising dramatically fortunes were made almost overnight. But the current debt crisis has probably hit the property sector the hardest, with the biggest slump in prices since the crash in the 1990s. With some experts predicting prices continuing to fall further.

Alongside the soaring property prices was soaring construction with thousands of new homes being built, Marbella like many other towns now has a glut of unsold or repossessed properties. The Spanish banking giant Santander, now being the largest property owner in Spain.

“Though what can be bad news for one person can be good news for another.” Altavista Spain

Michael Liggan the driving force behind Altavista property has a large selection of properties in Marbella, the holiday heart of the Costa del Sol, and in the elegant port of Puerto Banus, Elivira and the “New Golden Mile” that now links Estepona. For many in the past investing in a property in Marbella was not an option, as they were generally priced out of the market. But with Altavista Spain and our 100% mortgages alongside a 30-50% fall in property prices which has now afforded many the opportunity to invest, and what seemed unaffordable ten years ago is now a distinct possibility with Altavista property.

Many Marbella properties are exclusive to us, and are simply the best value we have right now – anywhere.” Michael Liggan, Altavista property.

Mortgages for foreigners in Spain are typically 50-70%, but you can now get a 100% mortgage on your new home when you buy an Altavista Spain exclusive property.

How has Altavista property done it?

In short, it’s taken months of careful negotiation, but we’ve managed to secure a limited number of key-ready, 30-50% discounted prime properties with the unique benefit of 100% mortgages.

The properties Altavista Spain are offering are currently owned by the banks (i.e. they’re repossessions), or by developers whom the banks are financing. Banks are not in the real estate business; they are about loans. They would rather hold loans than real estate, hence why they have given the real estate to us. One of our conditions was 100% mortgages in place for our clients.

News Stories and events on the Costa Del Sol from Altavista Property Spain

British expats demand the right to vote

The ‘Votes for Britons’ campaign wants the millions of British expatriates to lobby the UK Government on the issue of enfranchisement.

A new, worldwide campaign has been launched by a group of expatriates living in France who argue that all British expats should maintain the right to vote in Britain regardless of how long they have been abroad.

The ‘Votes for Britons’ campaign is urging the 5.6 million Britons who permanently reside overseas, including those here on the Costa del Sol, to sign a petition on their website, votes-for-expat-brits.com, and to lobby ministers on the issue of enfranchisement.

Under the current legislation, Britons who live overseas automatically lose their right to take part in general elections if they have lived abroad for more than 15 years.

“Other nationalities who chose to live abroad don’t face having their right to vote taken away because they live in Spain or France, for example,” Anita Rieu-Sicart, a journalist working for the campaign, tells SUR in English.

A new Time Bank has recently opened in Marbella, where members trade abilities, services, and knowledge

“Today for you, tomorrow for me”, six words that sum up the spirit of an initiative that has cropped up in many Spanish cities, among them Malaga and a newly opened establishment in Marbella. Hugo Coche is one of the members of a peculiar bank where there isn’t any money or any vaults. Instead the bank offers an array of services based on the abilities of its members, and it pays with hours, not money. Each client offers their own abilities to the rest of the members and can earn the help of others who want to share what they know. This is how the Time Bank works, a system that caught the attention of Hugo, a Chilean who has spent the last 20 years in Spain, and prompted him join and offer to give English classes.

Awareness campaign targets foreign domestic violence victims

The Junta-run helpline offers assistance to victims of domestic abuse in 51 different languages

This week the Costa del Sol branch of Soroptimist International, in collaboration with the Andalusian Women’s Institute in Malaga (I.A.M), launched an awareness campaign, aimed at foreign residents, of a free telephone number which assists victims of domestic violence.

“Soroptimist International is a Non-Governmental Organisation of professional women with some 90,000 members worldwide. Our aim is to advance the human rights and status of women,” explains the association’s, Lene Thygesen. “Very often when we give talks locally, foreign women who are suffering from domestic abuse ask us if there is any services to help them. I tell them there’s a telephone number that they can call which offers advice and help, but we’ve found that most of them had never heard of it; that’s why we’re launching this campaign directed at the British, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, German, Dutch and French-speaking communities.”

Spain’s property crash casts a long shadow over a place in the sun
